In a very small way I am responsible for assisting the hitchhiking pioneers of Silicon Valley, not that I did it but as a consultant I helped my friend and Artist Jim Pallas realize his project to place wooden cutouts of Lee de Forest, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, William Shockley, Frederick Terman and Robert Noyce - all considered "Fathers of Silicon Valley", at various places in the country and then have people help them hitchhike their way to their respective corporate locations. Hewlet and Packard seem to be stuck at an Office Depot in San Jose. They need rescuing to have them move along home. This project is part of the ZeroOne festival taking place in San Jose next week. The scupltures can be tracked real-time (since they have GPS transponders) here:
